  • 11 March 2025

We are pleased to announce the publication of a new paper titled “A European-Multicenter Network for the Implementation of Artificial Intelligence to Manage Complexity and Comorbidities of Atrial Fibrillation Patients: The ARISTOTELES Consortium” in the journal Thrombosis and Haemostasis (Vol. 125, No. 3, 2025).

Authors: Giuseppe Boriani, Davide Antonio Mei, Gregory Y.H. Lip, on behalf of the ARISTOTELES Consortium.

This paper presents the scientific foundation and objectives of the ARISTOTELES project, a Horizon Europe-funded initiative focused on improving the management of atrial fibrillation (AF) through the use of artificial intelligence. The article outlines the challenges of AF care in complex, multimorbid patients and describes how AI technologies—integrating clinical data, biomarkers, genetics, and imaging—can support early diagnosis, risk stratification, and personalised treatment. It details the project’s structure, including its multicenter randomised controlled trial, which will evaluate the impact of AI-supported decision-making on clinical outcomes such as mortality, hospitalisations, stroke, and therapy adherence. The publication emphasises the project's potential to transform AF care and serve as a model for AI integration in other complex medical conditions.

This publication represents a major step in disseminating the vision and scientific strategy of the ARISTOTELES project. You can access the full article here.
