The European Commission has initiated a Call for Evidence inviting individuals, healthcare professionals, patient organizations, and groups across Europe to share their perspectives on enhancing the early detection and screening of cardiovascular diseases.

This initiative is a key component of the Safe Hearts Plan, designed to enhance the prevention, early detection, and treatment of heart-related diseases. The Commission emphasized that cardiovascular diseases remain the primary cause of death and disability within the Eu, stressing the need to expand health checks and screening programs. Currently, less than half of the EU Member States have established dedicated cardiovascular screening programs.

The Call for Evidence aims to collect diverse inputs on existing challenges faced in cardiovascular disease detection and screening. It also aims to identify potential areas for improvement and assess the expected outcomes of proposed measures. Contributions are welcomed from individuals, patient organizations, NGOs, healthcare professionals, researchers, academic institutions, and other stakeholders who wish to contribute their perspectives.

The consultation will remain open until 19 May 2026, and all interested individuals and organizations are encouraged to participate in this initiative.
