EU launches network of AI-powered centres to advance disease screening

  • 23 March 2026

Under its Apply AI Strategy, the European Commission has introduced a European Network of AI-Powered Advanced Screening Centres, aimed at reinforcing prevention and early diagnosis efforts across Europe.

The network will connect healthcare organisations that are implementing, testing or assessing AI solutions in clinical environments, in particular to improve the prevention, early detection and diagnosis of cancer and cardiovascular diseases.

What does the network offer?

The initiative will serve as a platform for collaboration and knowledge-sharing, enabling participating centres to learn from each other’s experiences and advance the integration of AI into healthcare systems. It will also create opportunities for structured engagement with researchers and industry.

By joining the network, organisations will have access to:

  • - Exchange of expertise and best practices through dedicated events and peer interaction
  • - Targeted training activities on AI validation, ethics, interoperability and data management
  • - Insights from key EU initiatives, including the European Health Data Space (EHDS), COMPASS-AI and Cancer Image Europe
  • - Collaboration opportunities across healthcare, research and industry communities
  • - Participation in real-world testing of emerging AI solutions prior to market uptake
  • - Increased visibility, positioning centres as leading contributors to trustworthy AI in healthcare

Call for expression of interest

Healthcare organisations interested in participating in the network are invited to submit an expression of interest by 10 April 2026.
