Gregory Lip, MD, is Price-Evans Chair of Cardiovascular Medicine, at the University of Liverpool, UK – and Director of the Liverpool Centre for Cardiovascular Science at the University of Liverpool, Liverpool John Moores University and Liverpool Heart & Chest Hospital. He is also a Distinguished Professor at Aalborg University, Denmark; Adjunct Professor at Yonsei University, Seoul - and Adjunct Professor at Seoul National University, Seoul, Korea. He also holds Visiting or Honorary Professorships in various other Universities in the UK, Serbia (Belgrade), China (Beijing, Nanjing, Guangzhou), Thailand (Chiangmai, Mahidol in Bangkok) and Taiwan (Taipei). Half of his time is spent as a clinical cardiologist, including outpatient clinics (leading atrial fibrillation and hypertension specialist services) and acute cardiology. Professor Lip has had a major interest in the epidemiology of atrial fibrillation (AF), as well as the pathophysiology of thromboembolism in this arrhythmia.  Furthermore, he has been researching stroke and bleeding risk factors, and improvements in clinical risk stratification.  The CHA2DS2-VASc and HAS-BLED scores - for assessing stroke and bleeding risk, respectively – were first proposed and independently validated following his research, and are now incorporated into international guidelines.  The ABC (Atrial fibrillation Better Care) pathway proposed by him is the core recommendation in the 2020 European AF guidelines, and has been shown to reduce adverse outcomes in AF patients. In 2023, he was awarded the American College of Cardiology (ACC) Distinguished Scientist Award (Clinical Domain) (https://bit.ly/3DDs0Dm). Professor Lip was on the writing committee for various international guidelines, including the American College of Chest Physicians (ACCP) Antithrombotic Therapy Guidelines for Atrial Fibrillation, as well as various guidelines and/or position statements from the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) or EHRA. He has acted as senior/section editor for major international textbooks and at senior editorial level for major international journals, including Thrombosis & Haemostasis (Editor-in-Chief, Clinical Studies); Europace (Associate Editor); and Circulation (Guest Editor).

Prof Zheng is Professor of AI in Healthcare at the University of Liverpool. Yalin is a computer scientist working at the interface of artificial intelligence and healthcare, specialised in the research and development of artificial intelligence, biomedical image processing and analysis techniques. He has leadership roles as project PI delivering successful projects working effectively with different stakeholders (academics, clinicians, public, funder representatives and industry). His collaboration with clinicians has made a significant impact on patient care. His recent AI work has led to a new University spin-out, AI-Sight Ltd, for screening of diabetic retinopathy. His research has attracted funding from RCUKs, NIHR, Wellcome, British Council, and industry. He has published 200+ papers in high-quality medical and engineering journals. He is an editorial board member of 6 journals and chaired/co-chaired several national/internal conferences. He has built an excellent reputation in cross-disciplinary research in medical engineering with substantial translational potential into healthcare locally, nationally and globally.

Professor Lane is Professor of Cardiovascular Health and Head of Department, Cardiovascular and Metabolic Medicine at the University of Liverpool, United Kingdom, and Adjunct Professor of Cardiovascular Health, Aalborg University, Denmark. Her main research interests are atrial fibrillation and stroke prevention, with two major themes: patient-centred research and stroke and bleeding risk stratification and prevention. Her background is in health psychology and cardiovascular epidemiology and her research examines how atrial fibrillation affects patients’ quality of life and psychological well-being, their perceptions of the condition and treatment, and how patient education impacts treatment adherence, using quantitative and qualitative methodology. She has been integral in refining the risk stratification of atrial fibrillation patients requiring oral anticoagulant therapy based on their bleeding and stroke risk, deriving and validating stroke (CHA2DS2-VASc) and bleeding (HAS-BLED) risk schemas which are widely used both nationally and internationally in clinical practice. She has extensive experience in conducting clinical trials and applied health research and leading large-scale national and international projects on atrial fibrillation and stroke prevention, funded by EU Horizon 2020, NIHR, MRC, and industry. She has published >300 papers and was on the writing committee for the 2020 European Society of Cardiology guidelines on the management of atrial fibrillation and the 2018 American College of Chest Physicians (ACCP) guidelines on anti-thrombotic therapy in atrial fibrillation patients.

MD – PhD, graduated from Rome’s Catholic University in 1997. He then specialized in cardiology at the University of Perugia and achieved a PhD degree in Cardiovascular Science at Padua. He accomplished a fellowship in clinical electrophysiology at McGill University Canada. Since 2010, he is a Consultant Cardiologist at Luigi Sacco Hospital of Milan with a focus on cardiac pacing and electrophysiology. He is certified in cardiac pacing by the European Heart Rhythm Society and clinical electrophysiology by the Heart Rhythm Society. He author articles in national and international peer-reviewed journals and several book chapters.

Chair in Public Health and Clinical Informatics. Over twenty years of experience delivering and leading largescale health informatics and data research programs. Professor of Public Health and Clinical Epidemiology, Director of Digital Strategy and Partnerships for Liverpool Health Partners and leading the new Liverpool City Region Civic Data Cooperative that he led the bid for. He founded one of the UK’s largest health informatics groups at Manchester and led MRC Health e-Research Centre, co-founded the forerunner to Health Data Research UK, and conceived/led the UK Department of Health bid Social Care’s Connected Health Cities program. Prof. Buchan recently spent a year out in the industry leading healthcare research strategy for Microsoft Research and is Chief Data Scientist advisor for AstraZeneca. H-index 55, 255 publications.

Dr Wahbi El-Bouri is a Lecturer in digital twins and in silico clinical trials at the University of Liverpool. Dr El-Bouri completed his MEng in Engineering and his PhD in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Oxford. He has a background in biomedical engineering, with a focus on mathematical and computational modelling of the vascular system. The aim of his research is to develop technology that can be used to develop new medical interventions, as well as to personalise patient treatment and improve clinical trials. This encompasses linking clinical imaging to computational models, developing in silico clinical trials, and personalising medical treatment using patient-specific computational models.
